Give me a minute
Right, so we decided to start a record label, have a name and a logo. So far so good but there was one vital bit we were missing.
The music.
Gu had been in touch with the New Mastersounds from Leeds, UK and they were happy to have him produce the first single for Our Label Records. Their new album "This is what we do" was about to be released on their own UK label One Note Records and the first idea was to license a song from that album as a B-Side. But then Gu preferred our first single to be completely new and he had some ideas already.
He ventured to Leeds to work on the song with Eddie Roberts, musical brain behind the NMS. It so happened that as they were discussing ideas that Gu came up with the idea for a song. Eddie was very open to have Gu co-write the song and produce it. During the composition session Eddie brought up the topic of naming the song. Gu's reply was "Give me a minute, I have to figure this bit out first". When they re-addressed the naming issue Eddie pointed out that a song should usually have a title which derives from the first thing that comes into one's head. Therefore the title should be "Give me a minute".
The next day Tom came up to Leeds (or down for all you pouncy Brits) and after tea at Eddie's we went to the rehearsal room to meet Simon, Bob and Pete to introduce them to the new song. About an hour and a half later the wireframe for the song was done and everybody pretty much knew what they would be doing. Gu was happy and we all recorded a run through on our mobiles. Obviously, this recording sounded extremely awful, but we wanted some proof of the song and a token to remind us of the session which was to produce the first output for Our Label Records.
